Daniel Camilo Galeano Suárez defended his PhD in electrical engineering on 18 June 2026 at UQTR's Albert-Tessier building. A LIREI member, his work addresses equity and cost sharing in transactive energy systems: assessment frameworks for cost-sharing agreements, the effects of locational marginal pricing on fairness and voltage quality, and co-simulation of distribution grid constraints.

Moussa Ibrahim Moumouni defended his PhD in electrical engineering on 28 April 2026, supervised by Professor Kodjo Agbossou and co-supervised by Professor Roland P. Malhamé (Polytechnique Montréal). His work proposes a residential agent able to emulate the thermal dynamics of an inhabited house and to automatically turn energy-cost objectives into thermostat setpoints, while accounting for operational uncertainty.

A doctoral student in electrical engineering at LIREI, Kossi Landry Adjanohun came away from UQTR's scientific poster competition with three prizes: the Sustainable Development prize for his building-integrated cultivation systems, the Interdisciplinarity prize for his integrated energy systems, and the AGE UQTR prize for graduate studies in natural sciences and engineering. His work addresses robust energy management for greenhouses.

Alejandro Parrado Duque defended his PhD in electrical engineering on 19 January 2026, supervised by Professor Kodjo Agbossou and co-supervised by Professor Sousso Kelouwani. His work designs a negotiation mechanism, built on economic incentives and mathematical rules, that guarantees honesty always remains the most profitable strategy for smart homes reporting their consumption to the grid.

The Quebec government is investing $6.87M in a new technology platform on the Trois-Rivières campus, driven in particular by the INRS-UQTR joint research unit. The work targets critical mineral valorization, energy storage, green fuels and industrial decarbonization.

On October 1-2, 2025, Trois-Rivières hosts Hyvolution Canada 2025, the first Canadian edition of the international reference event on hydrogen technologies, organized in partnership with UQTR's Hydrogen Research Institute (IRH) and bringing together over 250 participants from Europe and North America.

UQTR is acquiring $4M in research equipment, funded by Canada Economic Development, National Bank and the University. Its energy axis directly supports the field's work: efficient technologies, cold-climate storage, renewable energy integration and greenhouse energy management. Justin Trudeau, accompanied by François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, was received at the IRH by professors Kodjo Agbossou, Bruno G. Pollet, Sousso Kelouwani and Loïc Boulon. Some fifteen graduate students presented their ongoing work on the energy transition, green hydrogen and transport electrification.
