UQTR and Trois-Rivières

A French-speaking university of the Université du Québec network, halfway between Montreal and Quebec City on the St. Lawrence. A city on a human scale, where campus, housing and daily life sit close together rather than an hour apart — and where the laboratory will soon move into the new downtown research building.

A multicultural environment

The laboratory brings together people from West Africa, Latin America, North Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Quebec, and sustains working ties with fifteen universities across four continents. Research is published in English; university life runs in French, and UQTR supports learning the language.

After graduation

Our graduates continue in research — several have returned to the laboratory as postdoctoral fellows — or join industry and partner research centres, among them Hydro-Québec's LTE. One is now a professor at UQTR. Because projects run with industrial partners, those connections exist well before the thesis is finished.

Training and visibility

More than half the publication catalogue is conference papers: students present their own work, in Canada and abroad. The laboratory supports that participation, along with continuing training — summer schools, workshops and methodological development.

Postdoctoral

Postdoctoral fellowship in intelligent energy management

LIREI regularly hosts postdoctoral researchers across its three research programs. Spontaneous applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Profile sought

A doctorate in electrical or computer engineering or a related field, completed within the last five years. A solid publication record and research autonomy. Depending on the program: optimization, machine learning, multi-agent systems, predictive control or distribution-network modelling.

Funding

Funding depends on current grants; applications backed by an external fellowship application are welcome.

Doctorate

Doctoral studies in electrical engineering

Doctoral projects are defined within each of the laboratory's three programs. Every project is supervised by a faculty member and attached to a funded program.

Profile sought

A master's degree in electrical or computer engineering or a related field. Comfort with modelling and scientific programming. French or English is required; the work is published in English.

Master's projects with thesis, often tied directly to one of the laboratory's test benches or platforms.

Profile sought

A bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or a related field. A clear interest in experimentation and in working with real data.

Research internships

Undergraduate and international internships, in particular through the Mitacs programs and the agreements with our academic partners.

Profile sought

Undergraduate students in engineering or computer science. Internships most often involve instrumentation, data processing or simulation.

How to apply

One way in, whatever the posting: the contact form. It delivers your file to the laboratory's mailbox.

  1. Choose the program and the level

    Read the three research programs and find the one your work fits. An application that names a specific program is handled faster than a general one.

  2. Put the file together

    A CV in PDF, your transcripts, and a one-page letter saying what you want to study and why here. Publications, code repositories or earlier theses help.

  3. Send it through the form

    Pick the subject matching the position and attach your CV. The form accepts PDF, DOC and DOCX files up to 3.5 MB.

  4. After you send it

    Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. If your profile matches a current or upcoming project, a faculty member will write back to arrange a conversation.

Funding and scholarships

Funding depends on current grants and on the program you are applying to. Doctoral projects attached to a funded program usually come with a scholarship; at other levels, support varies with the funds available when you apply.

Applications backed by an external scholarship application are particularly welcome — NSERC, the Fonds de recherche du Québec and the Mitacs programs, all of which the laboratory already works with. We are glad to support such applications.
