LIREI is recruiting a doctoral student for the hydrogen strand of a four-year project on supplying an isolated northern community with energy. The work is to determine which hydrogen technologies suit long-duration storage in a cold climate, model how they integrate into the local grid, and then put the residual heat of conversion to use for community heating — through to assessing whether the whole is economically viable.
Profile sought
A master's degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering, or a related field. Modelling of energy systems and scientific programming. An interest in electrochemical conversion — electrolysis, fuel cells — and in thermal systems is an asset. French or English is required; the work is published in English. Stays in the partner community are planned and funded.
Funding
A four-year doctoral scholarship, within a project of the ACET network (Accelerating Community Energy Transformation), funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. Fieldwork travel is covered by the project.
